Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 8, 2026

1. Who we are

Spin & Speak is a language-speaking practice app created by Speedy Languages ("we," "us," "our"). If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, contact us at hellospeedylanguages@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect

  • Account information. When you sign in, we collect your email address (email sign-in), or your name, email, and profile picture provided by Google (Google sign-in).
  • Voice recordings and transcripts. When you record a spoken answer, your audio is sent to our transcription and analysis providers to generate written text and feedback. We don't permanently store the raw audio file on our servers; your transcript and the resulting feedback are stored so you can review your history.
  • Session content. The topic you were given, any notes you write in the notepad, your transcript, and your full feedback report (scores, corrections, suggestions) are saved to your account so you can revisit them in your History.
  • News Challenge leaderboard. If you play the weekly News Challenge, the display name you choose and your score for that week are visible to other signed-in learners on the leaderboard. We never show your email or real name unless you choose to use it as your display name, and your recordings, transcripts, and full feedback stay private to you.
  • Screen activity (session replay). We use session replay to watch how learners move through the app: clicks, scrolling, and what's on screen, so we can find and fix confusing or broken moments in the product. Anything you type into a form field (like your sign-in email or your notepad text) is automatically blanked out before it's ever sent, and so is any personal topic you write yourself in "Your Prompt."
  • Device preferences. Some settings (theme, your native language for translation, your streak, whether you've seen the onboarding guide) are stored locally in your browser and never sent to our servers.
  • Communications. If you email us, we keep that correspondence to respond to you and improve the app.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide the core service: transcribing your speech, analyzing it, generating feedback, tracking your progress and streak, and letting you revisit past sessions
  • Personalize your experience, like avoiding repeat topics or translating content into your native language when you ask for it
  • Communicate with you about your account or respond to your messages
  • Maintain and improve the app, including diagnosing bugs

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use your recordings or transcripts to train AI models.

4. Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") to run Spin & Speak:

  • OpenAI, to transcribe your recordings and generate your grammar feedback, translations, and spoken audio playback. Because OpenAI's infrastructure is based in the United States, this involves an international transfer of your data outside the European Economic Area, made under OpenAI's standard contractual safeguards. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models.
  • Supabase, to host our database and manage sign-in. Your account and session data are stored on Supabase's EU infrastructure.
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with your Google account, to authenticate you.
  • PostHog, only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner shown on your first visit (see Section 9), to understand how the app is used (for example which topics get picked, where people drop off, and, via session replay, how learners actually navigate the app), hosted on PostHog's EU infrastructure. We never send your recordings, transcripts, or feedback content to PostHog. Anything you type into a form field is automatically masked before it reaches PostHog, and so is any personal text you write yourself, like a custom "Your Prompt" topic (see Section 2).

We don't share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.

5. How long we keep your data

We keep your session history for as long as your account is active, so you can track your progress over time. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time (see Section 7).

6. Your rights

If you're in the European Economic Area, or anywhere with similar data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email hellospeedylanguages@gmail.com. If you believe we haven't handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali).

7. Deleting your account

You can ask us to permanently delete your account and all associated session data at any time by emailing us. We'll process deletion requests within 30 days.

8. Children

Spin & Speak isn't directed at children under 14. If you're under 14, please don't use the app or provide us with personal data without a parent or guardian's involvement.

9. Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in. Everything else, the analytics cookies (via PostHog) that help us understand how the app is used, like which features get used, where people drop off, and, through session replay, how learners actually navigate the app (with typed input and personal text automatically masked, see Section 2), only runs if you accept it in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. You can change your mind anytime: . We don't use advertising cookies, and we don't sell data to advertisers.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and database access controls that ensure only you can access your own session data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know. The effective date above shows when it was last updated.
